Apple are always at the forefront when it comes to pushing new and challenging technologies, on 16th of October they announced their most impressive computer yet. The new iMac boasts a mind blowing 14.7 million pixels, which is 4 times more than a standard 27 inch iMac. This amazing amount of pixels means ultra HD imagery, great for those who are designers or use it to edit HD films. But what else is new?
Well, it does offer the chance of a 4.0GHz quad-core Intel Core processor, something which you would need to power that extraordinary display if wasn’t for the addition of Turbo Boost 2.0. Turbo Boost is standard on the new iMac and automatically gives the user a healthy increase in speeds when using something that is processor intensive. You can also see up to 20Gbps Thunderbolt 2 bandwidth and you’ll get to experience their latest operating system, OS X Yosemite.
Yosemite has come into the world with the sole purpose of connecting all of your iOS 8 Apple devices together with ease. It’s also been created to take full advantage of the new hardware found in the iMac. How? You can now receive and answer phone calls from your Mac and you can also start an email or document on one device to pick it up instantly on another Apple device. The battery life has also been increased due to Yosemite giving you advanced power saving technology, not that battery life was ever a worry for Apple.
As with all new computer systems you will see an array of built in apps, but Apples are updated with the new stunning Yosemite design. With a new iMac you will see updated apps such as iPhoto, iMovie, Keynote, Pages, Numbers and GarageBand (among others). If you’re not a fan of a 27” screen and are after something a little more cosy then you can opt for the smaller 21.5” Mac screen, you will however lose the ground breaking 5K retina display.
All of this of course comes at a price, if you’d like to get your hands in a 27” iMac with retina that includes a 3.5GHz quad-core processor, Turbo Boost, 8gb memory and 1TB Fusion Drive then you’ll be parting with a minimum of £1999.00. You can of course add extras and boost existing tech, but this will push the price up considerably more. It’s certainly worth a look should you be looking for a long term investment, as this fantastic machine will be tough to beat for some years to come.
It may not have been out long, but this superb piece of technology has already been reviewed by the very best of technology editors. Tech Crunch gave a wonderful review on the product, giving it only one con which was the fairly high price. Another tech giant who reviewed the iMac was Engadget whose only quibble with the machine was the inability to use it as a secondary display, which would have been useful for those who are used to multiple screens. It seems that even the most highly regarded tech enthusiasts are struggling to find flaw with this wonderful and extremely advanced computer. It’s hard to knock perfection, isn’t it?
